Hello beautiful people!! I thought I'd create a new post, similar to my cruelty-free guide for make-up brands, but this time specifically for skin care brands!

It's so important to take care of our skin - I don't know about you, but I have both an AM and PM regime to make sure I'm doing everything I can to  ACE my BASE ;)

So, to refresh your memory, here is how each category works to separate each brand:

Category 1. 100% Cruelty-Free - Brands that:
  • Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals,
  • Do not sell their products in Mainland China (where it is required by law that products are tested on animals before they can be sold), and
  • Are not owned by a non-cruelty-free parent company

Category 2. Mostly Cruelty-Free - Brands that:

  • Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals,
  • Do not sell their products in Mainland China (where it is required by law that products are tested on animals before they can be sold),
  • But are owned by a non-cruelty-free parent company (for example, The Body Shop, which is renowned for fighting against animal cruelty, is owned by L'Oreal who, sadly folks, do test on animals...)

Category 3. Not considered to be Cruelty-Free - Brands that:

  • Test their products and/or ingredients on animals, and/or
  • Sell their products in mainland China

SO, here are some of the most well-known skincare brands that I know of, separated into the relevant category to their animal-testing activity:

Category 1. 100% Cruelty-Free:

- By Terry
- Deciem (Parent company of NIOD and The Ordinary)
- Drunk Elephant
- Emma Hardie
- Fourth Ray (Owned by ColourPop founders)
- Glow Recipe
- Herbivore
- Isle of Paradise (also VEGAN!)
- Mario Badescu
- Milk
- Ole Henriksen
- Omorovicza (pulled out of the Chinese market to regain their cruelty-free status - go Omorovicza!!)
- Pixi Beauty
- Revolution Skincare
- Summer Fridays
- Sunday Riley
- Tatcha

Category 2. Mostly Cruelty-Free:

- The Body Shop (owned by L'Oreal)
- Elemis (owned by Steiner Leisure)
- Kate Somerville (owned by Unilever)
- REN (owned by Unilever)

Category 3. Not considered to be Cruelty-Free:

- Boscia
- Caudalie
- Clarins
- Clearasil
- Fresh
- GlamGlow
- Dior
- Kiehl's
- La Mer
- Lancome
- Laneige
- Origins

..... If there are any brands that you would like to find out about that are not listed here, please feel free to reach out and let me know - I'm sure there are many that I have missed. I'll happily do the research and add them to this list!

In the meantime, enjoy your radiant skin!!

** Disclaimer **

I am neither a skincare expert, nor a brand-policy-expert, and I have not independently reached out to each brand listed here, to find out this information. The above information is based on research that I have conducted myself, over a period of time, including using websites such as www.crueltyfreekitty.com whom are specifically focused on finding out, from the brands directly, what their animal testing policies are, as well as brands' own publicly available information. I am purely collating this research and translating it into my own blog post.

Yep, I broke my spending ban AGAIN. Woops.

‘But was it worth it?’, I hear you ask.

If you want to know my thoughts on the Anastasia Dewy Set Setting Spray, just keep reading 😊
The obvious place to start really! And honestly, if you have seen my Insta feed you’ll know my thoughts on this already.

𝓟𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓪𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓰

I mean I love all of Anastasia’s packing; I also love sparkly things. So I guess it comes as no surprise when I say I LOVE this!!!

Don’t be deceived though – the gold sparkly bottle is in fact the packaging, not the spray itself!!

So, here are my personal Pros:
  • It absolutely sets my make-up in place. The minute its on my face, my make up is set down, all in place, beautifully melted together.
  • Whenever I use a setting spray, I quickly go over it with a beauty sponge to help melt the makeup and setting spray together. When I do that with this, it literally looks like a dewy, radiant, glow angel has waved her magic wand over my face. Actual dewy perfection.
  • It literally does what it says on the tin (well, bottle).
  • Great for dry skin… It actually feels refreshing and hydrating.
  • It never picks up make up when I dab the setting spray into my face with a sponge. I’ve used a couple of others before that do and it is so frustrating!

My only niggle is that it doesn’t last all day, well at least on my face. I would say my makeup stays put for around 8 hours before I start noticing it looking less-than-perfect. By that I mean, things like makeup rubbing off, creasing in fine lines, the corners of my nose not looking good, separating etc. Not to say that all of that happens, I just mean that is the sort of imperfection I’ve observed after 8hrs... In comparison to the Urban Decay All-Nighter for example, when I’ve never noticed those things.

I am a face-toucher though!! 🙈

𝓕𝓻𝓪𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮

I personally love it. It’s a coconut-vanilla scent, but not overpowering. It’s not like having a massive coconut or vanilla beam slap you square in the face when you spray it – it’s just refreshing and sweet.

A slightly odd choice for a facial spray – in my mind a fresh/clean/fruity scent would have been the logical choice – but I’m not mad at it.

𝓢𝓹𝓻𝓪𝔂𝓮𝓻

The sprayer to be honest is probably the only thing I’m not 100% about. It’s not ‘misty’ enough for me. You might find it’s the perfect balance between powerful and misty but, for me, it sprays ever so slightly too big droplets.

Some setting sprays do not require dabbing over with a beauty sponge after spraying, and I love those. The ones that just spray on, melt your makeup in, and dry. Perfect! But sadly this isn’t one of those.

I mean, it’s not a huge deal, I just hold the bottle a little bit further away from my face than I would with another, mistier sprayer.

You just have to be a little wary of not spraying too close to you, and soaking your freshly made up face….

𝓟𝓻𝓲𝓬𝓮

This spray is £27 for 100ml. Here are some comparisons:
  • Skindinavia – 118ml bottle is £24
  • Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day – 100ml bottle is £16
  • Makeup Revolution ‘Glow Revolution’ – 200ml bottle is £10
  • Morphe Continuous Setting Mist – 82.8ml bottle is £15
  • Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist – 80ml bottle is £16

So yeah, it’s pricey.

Having said that, I’ve been using this spray every day, pretty generously, for about 2 weeks, and there is maybe half a centimetre of product that has gone from the bottle. So it’s not like I’m going to use it up any time soon.

𝓢𝓾𝓶𝓶𝓪𝓻𝔂

To me, it looks like this is a good quality, VERY aesthetic, long lasting product. So I’m a fan.

If I’m being absolutely honest though, I probably won’t buy it again when this runs out.

BUT that’s not because I don’t rate it. It’s just because I envisage a lot of new setting spray releases between now and the time that this runs out, plus there are already others that I would like to try out.

So… I’m glad I bought it, I do love it, I'm not fussed that it’s a little pricey, would recommend you giving it a go if you’re on the fence… But no I probably won’t re-buy.
