Cruelty-Free Cosmetics
Hello again lovelies! Thank you for visiting again 💋
As promised, here is the list of brands that I have compiled - and use as my bible - when it comes to buying make-up and skincare. I am constantly updating the list so please feel free to check back here every now and again, I'll add any updates to this post. Similarly, if any of your favourite brands are missing, just let me know in the comments, and i'll research those and add them here too!
To keep it simple, the categories I have split the brands into are:
1. 100% Cruelty-Free:
- Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals
- Do not sell their products in Mainland China (where it is required by law that products are tested on animals before they can be sold)
- Are not owned by a non-cruelty-free parent company
2. Mostly Cruelty-Free:
- Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals
- Do not sell their products in Mainland China (where it is required by law that products are tested on animals before they can be sold)
- But are owned by a non-cruelty-free parent company (for example, The Body Shop, which is renowned for fighting against animal cruelty, is owned by L'Oreal who, sadly folks, do test on animals...)
3. Not considered to be Cruelty-Free:
- Test their products and/or ingredients on animals, and/or
- Sell their products in mainland China

Personally, I try to shop from the first category more than any other. But I guess it depends on where you want to draw the line, and how strongly you want to protect animals in comparison to how much you want to buy particular make-up...
For example, one of my favourite brands ever is Too Faced. They are absolutely cruelty-free in terms of their products, and they don't sell in mainland China, so in theory no single product you could ever buy from them will have ever been tested on an animal. HOWEVER, since Too Faced are owned by Estee Lauder Companies, I suppose by buying their make-up, we are indirectly supporting the profits of a company that does test on animals. Tough call!!
I know for my collection at least, I like to keep it to a pretty strict split of about 80%-20%, category 1-category 2 brands. But one set of brands that I most definitely do not buy from anymore, are any that fall into category 3.
So I hope this has been a helpful and insightful post, that inspires you to support our wildlife 🐇
..... Over to you!
Xx
